There was an interview with Winstone in one of the free rags recently, mainly about his new film about boxing and he was going on about as a kid his great love was boxing, it's his life blah blah. I expected it to boxing dominated of course but when discussing his childhood there was not a word about football never mind about West Ham. He seems to be a fan when it suits him. Yet others like Russell Brand get abuse and he he was a ST holder in the west lower

not a partically good or versatile actor. He's Boston accent in The Departed is laughable.
Nice that he's a hammer and that's all that can be said.

I think people are missing the point. The reason why people dislike Winstone has absolutely nothing to do with jealousy or him being Cockney, he's just an arsehole. Danny Dyer comes across so much better. There's no comparison.
I remember he was on a talk show a few years back and they got on to West Ham and he decided to play it all cool and say how football had got boring. You could tell it was an act. He's highly dislikeable and plays a constant character as far as I can see. Fair play to him for his career and all that, but I can see why people don't take to him. I doubt he gives a shit.

I always find it a bit weird that us Cockneys always seem to hate those amongst us doing well more than anyone else.
Winston and Dyer get dogs abuse on here. A really good pal of mine is a Chelsea supporter and his pal who he sat with sometimes had to work weekends so I'd go to a few matches a season so long as they obviously didn't clash with our games.
I used to go and it was great fun turning round to some cunt of a Chelsea supporter and saying 'we are fucking shit really, ain't we mate?' and stuff like that. My pal used to cringe but it was as funny as fuck. Does that make me Chelsea? Is that really all that weird?
I once even swapped tickets with a spurs supporter and he sat in the west stand at Upton Park and I sat in the away end with the four-wheelers. It was an amazing experience as I witnessed the hatred and vitriol of a West Ham stadium (it was awesome) and got a read on the Nigels that follow them home and away. Both them and chelsea fans were a complete bunch of wankers- not that we don't know that already of course.
And to the poster who said that Ben Kingsly played a Cockney better than Winstone, I'd advise you to visit East London at some point in your life. I love Sexy Beast (in fact it's one of my favourite films) but Kingsly sounds more south London because he talks so fast.
I like Ray AND Danny Dyer because they break with the common view that all Cockneys are wheeling, dealing thieves who mainly sell second-hand cars. Some of us get sick of people not trusting us as soon as we open our mouths.
